Disrupted and consolidated infrastructures and automated processes to build efficiency, repeatability, and precision. Director, System Engineering, Charlotte, NC

Develop and lead team of talented engineers responsible for changing the way platforms are created and run at Ally. Provides technical guidance and expertise to design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, high-performing services and systems. Reports to the Senior Director of Production Engineering and provides strategic direction to a team of 40 including multiple directors and managers.

  • Removed over $1MM USD in cost within the first 90 days. Over 4.5M annual in the first year.
  • Rebuilt the observability practice with a focus on enablement and results. Restructured the team from tool-based silos to Plan → Build → Run.
  • Reduced the tool footprint in observability from 15 tools to 4 after running an enterprise-wide tools rationalization project.

Chief Technology Officer

Directed all technology operations and initiatives, including the integration of multiple acquired entity networks and platforms. Reported to the CEO and provided strategic direction to Director of Infrastructure, Senior Director of Data, Senior Director of Development, Manager of ITSM, CTO – Philippines, Senior Director of Application Support, Director of Enterprise Architecture. Total team size was over 150 across United States and Philippines.

  • Implemented robotic process automation (RPA) to automate back-office mortgage tasks and automated testing for regression and load...to save over 2.5M/year in labor costs while decreasing turn times by 12% and increasing accuracy.
  • Eliminated 80% of data centers and consolidated nine phone systems into one MPLS. Implemented SD-WAN. Established additional offshoring services including network management, patching, system engineering, software engineering in Manilla, reducing labor by $4M per year.
  • Relocated 90% of applications to AWS and consolidated seven loan origination systems (LOS) to four ... This moved us from opex to capex and allowed us to do just in time capacity management. Allowed us to close 12 datacenters throughout the country.
  • Led stabilization of core systems and high availability (HA) capabilities to increase volumes 10 times.
  • Rationalized contracts from 25 acquisitions to save millions ($3.5MM USD) in non-labor spend.

CONTRACT CONSULTANT

2016 – 2017

Fractional Chief Technology Officer, Delphic Digital, Manayunk, PA

  • Overhauled technology platform for mid-size marketing consultancy that struggled with delivery failure, unpredictable costs, and a disorganized tech strategy. Rebuilt trust among key accounts and reduced non-labor annual spend by $250K.
  • Reorganized the team and upskilled talent. Migrated to cloud first AWS model and implemented CI/CD with JetBrains TeamCity.

Cloud Consultant, SAP National Security Services, Inc. (SAP NS2), Newtown Square, PA

  • Leveraged F5 and AWS skills to stand up F5 stack on premise (Viprion) and in the cloud (AWS) for this government cloud service provider and independent US subsidiary of SAP. Led implementation of HCM suite, Success Factors, in a secure environment.
  • Launched FIPS 140-2 with HSMs and MFA with CAC/PIP cards and the F5 ASM. Full automated all deployments, including STIG implementation and FedRAMP certification.

DITECH FINANCIAL LLC, Fort Washington, PA

Provider of home loan, loan servicing, and refinance products to US consumers and institutional partners. Rebranded from "Ditech Mortgage" and "Green Tree Servicing" after the subprime mortgage crisis. Ditech was acquired from Ally, the former GMAC ResCap, in 2013.

Led fast-track transformation that spanned the business, optimized processes, and workflow, to improve all aspects of the organization technology platform. Reported to the President and provided strategic leadership to Infrastructure and Application Development.

  • Developed Slack community for users and administrators of Ellie Mae Encompass360 and integrated Ditech technology leadership into the PhillyDev Slack.
  • Introduced machine learning for analytics, created mortgage trend analytical models, and prototyped mobile applications that enhanced customer engagement.
